Man, i missed the first 10 minutes. Mid Valley parking is hell if you don't know the place. Well i entered as Kamal(1) was drown in the sea & Asin gone mad and hitting her head on the statue. Its more like a reincarnation story. The story resolves about a scientist(2) created a bio-virus, so his boss want to sell it to US & hires a professional assassin(3) to kill Kamal. So president Buss(4) comes in to the picture, playing dumb as usual on getting it. So Kamal try to run a way with the virus & got Cargo-napped to India. Its so obvious that MAS was dumb to put a person in the Kargo. Talk about security in MAS Kargo. In the process, the assassin kills Kamal's friend & Japanese wife. Then assassin get Mallika Sherawat as a translator and heads to INDIA. The news spreads to the Japanese wife's brother who is a martial art expert(5).Now he too goes to INDIA to revenge.
In India, Kamal will be arrested in suspect of being a terrorist by a Telugu officer(6)but got kidnapped again now by the assassin out of the airport. They escape a the famous North Indian Singer(7) came to airport and the security was rushing to his aid. Outside the airport, Kamal runs away to search for the Bio-Virus which got send to Asin & Granny(8). The granny does stunts and put the Bio-virus in the Deity Statue.
Kamal will run way with the statue, but chased by our Heroin Asin. They run so far that they come back to the same place they suicide in their previous life. There they will hide the statue to cool down in the sand. Apparently the sand miners will be there to do their job and both of them try to stop it. Bit logically they escape with the sand lorry with the help of the nature activist(9). Then Asin (i got a new meaning to the name Asin = PURE DUMB, PRETTY FREAKY FEMALE)pulls the Lorry Steering to hit a
Muslim family with a very tall son(10) in a van. Miraculously all escapes unhurt. Then both run away again & Kamal gets the virus then looses it. To make the story short, unlike all the story, this time Tsunami saves the world (or did it?) and both Kamal(2,5,6,8,10) & Asin escapes the disaster after being hit by it. They too didn't get wet after that. Fuh was it a great story to watch & write. Its definitely not a typical Tamil movie.
Watch it with an open mind and don't mind the illogic things that happen in the movie as its no different from a Hollywood movie. Another must watch movie for Kamal fans.

ReplyDeleteIn fact, I watched Dasavatharam twice , one in the morning and once at night. Honestly, what I feel about this movie is, it's a highly technical movie and there's a lot of researches and reading to be done before you can actually appreciate or understand fully on what is going on. The movie sets in slowly and once you get the grip of it, no doubt you'll feel this is one of the greatest movies ever created - especially in Indian cinema. Many are going around claiming that the movie wasn't up to expectation, etc. I wonder how many people have actually taken the time to do a little reading or research before uttering a comment or review?
ReplyDeleteThats why I'm sending you some interesting facts to consider before going to see Dasavatharam.
Following facts were sourced out from Wikipedia and also other relevant websites.
butterfly effect and CHAOS THEORY
It´s the theory that a butterfly's wings might create tiny changes in the atmosphere that may ultimately alter the path of a tornado or delay, accelerate or even prevent the occurrence of a tornado in a certain location. The flapping wing represents a small change in the initial condition of the system, which causes a chain of events leading to large-scale alterations of events. Had the butterfly not flapped its wings, the trajectory of the system might have been vastly different. Of course the butterfly cannot literally cause a tornado. The kinetic energy in a tornado is enormously larger than the energy in the turbulence of a butterfly. The kinetic energy of a tornado is ultimately provided by the sun and the butterfly can only influence certain details of weather events in a chaotic manner. The entire story of Dasavatharam is based on this theory and not about bio warfare, 12th century religious clash or tsunami.
Kulothunga Chola II (12th century king
Reigned from: 1133 - 1150 C.E.
Kulothunga II had a comparatively peaceful reign. His intolerance or persecution of "Vaishnavas" is disputed. As explained in the 'Kulothunga Cholan Ula', during his time, major development work at the Natarajar Temple at Thillai (Chidambaram) was carried out. Incidentally, this major Shaiva shrine also houses the (separate) temple of Lord Vishnu as Govindarajar, which is among the 108 Divya Desams (sacred temples of Lord Vishnu). Under Kulothunga II's orders, an attempt to persuade the patrons of the Vishnu shrine was made for temporarily removing the idol of Vishnu, ostensibly with the purpose of repairing and renovation, which was initially opposed by the Vaishnava community. Kulothunga-II probably got the idol forcibly shifted mainly so that the repair work is carried on smoothly and also with the intention of not causing any damage to the Vishnu shrine. This opposition of Vaishnavas to the (intended but not deliberate) removal and closure of Lord Vishnu's temple was interpreted in some quarters as persecution of Vaishnavites, because in Hinduism closure of a temple is opposed and at least a small lamp has to be lit in the temple, without which that temple is not considered fit for worship. Otherwise, Kulothunga-II is known to have been popular as evidenced by Sekkilar's work Periyapuranam.
26th DECEMBER 2004 TSUNAMI FACTS
Released energy equivalent to 9,560 gigatons of TNT equivalent (550 million times that of Hiroshima Atomic bomb), or about 370 years of energy used in the United States in 2005
Killing more than 225,000 people in eleven countries
Waves up to 30 meters (100 feet). Average overhead roads we see on the road have 5 meter clearance.
Magnitude of between 9.1 and 9.3 recorded on a seismograph.
It caused the entire planet to vibrate as much as 1 cm, shortened the length of a day by 2.68 microseconds, caused the Earth to minutely "wobble" on its axis by up to 2.5 cm and triggered other earthquakes as far away as Alaska
In deep ocean water, tsunami waves form only a small hump, barely noticeable and harmless, which generally travels at a very high speed of 500 to 1,000 km/h ; in shallow water near coastlines, a tsunami slows down to only tens of kilometres an hour but in doing so forms large destructive waves.
Tsunami was noticed as far as Struisbaai in South Africa, some 8,500 km (5,300 mi) away, where a 1.5 m high tide was observed.
In the minutes preceding a tsunami strike, the sea often recedes temporarily from the coast. Around the Indian Ocean, this rare sight reportedly induced people, especially children, to visit the coast to investigate and collect stranded fish on as much as 2.5 km of exposed beach, with fatal results.
MAKE UP
It takes an average of 4 to 6 hours to don a make up for each role and another 4 hours to remove - totalling at least 8 hours just for make up. Acting and shooting commences only after that. We are talking about ten roles here.
SONGS
Songs placed in DASAVATHARAM are not there just for the sake of a song sequence. It´s blended beautifully together with the movie.
GRAPHICS AND CGI
If certain people think that the graphics were not very good, no doubt, we must admit, Dasavatharam required a very high end and special CGI. Do we have any idea how much CGI or special effects cost in a Hollywood movies ?.Here are the facts sourced from Hollywood itself.
The Rise of the Machines, for example, the budget for computer work, including visual effects, creature effects, and special effects, was $USD 28.2 million (120,887,722.10 rupees)
It does costs a lot to obtain a real life CGI.
DR.KAMAL´S MAKE UP
Facial make up for Dr.Kamal was done by Michael George Westmore (Hollywood make up artist) who won an Academy Award for Makeup in MASK and nominated three other times, for 2010 (1984), The Clan of the Cave Bear (1986) and Star Trek: First Contact (1996). He has also won nine Emmy Awards, and was nominated for at least one Emmy every year from 1984 to 2005 (as well as from 1976 to 1978). Westmore has also won or been nominated for various other awards for makeup. If he cannot do the best make up, I believe no one else in this world can. Another way of saying this is that the technology is not there yet to do such make up.
My heartiest congratulations to Dr.Kamal for coming with up such a wonderful script and hard work that words cannot describe. Nothing but tears flows when I think of the amount of work and talent you have unleashed Sir. Well done. I'm definitely going the movie 4 or 5 times more!
Good to read. Apt credited to movie. The reviewer has really taken strains to visualise the amount of hardwork and patience spent for the movie. Movie is really worth the money especially the first 15 mins. Real magnum opus.
